Barcelona Open: Davidovich Fokina advances to last eight

Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina advanced to the last 8 of the Barcelona Open by defeating Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 4 seed, 7-5, 6-4 at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on Thursday.
It was his first win over Rublev in six meetings, and is his 20th win on the ATP Tour this season, meaning he is behind only Carlos Alcaraz and Alex de Minaur.
Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 30, will play Russian Karen Khachanov next in his fourth quarter-final of the year.
In the previous round of the Barcelona tournament, the Spaniard won against Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka (6-1, 6-4).
Rublev, ranked No 8, won against Dutch qualifier Jesper De Jong (6-1, 6-3) in the previous round of the Barcelona tournament.
