Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 5 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open by beating American Coco Gauff, the No 4 seed, 6-4, 6-3 at the Porsche-Arena on Saturday evening.
Paolini, ranked No 6, will face Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Stuttgart tournament, the Italian won against German wildcard Eva Lys (6-2, 6-1) and German wildcard Jule Niemeier (6-1, 7-5).
Gauff, ranked No 4, won against German lucky loser Ella Seidel (6-1, 6-1) in the previous round of the Stuttgart tournament.
