Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot defeated Australian Olivia Gadecki, the No 6 seed, 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the last 8 of the L’Open 35 de Saint Malo on Wednesday.
Jacquemot, ranked No 143, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Diane Parry and Japanese Naomi Osaka, the second seed, next.
In the previous round, the 21-year-old Frenchman edged out Canadian Marina Stakusic (6-4, 4-6, 6-4).
Gadecki, ranked No 91, won against Canadian Victoria Mboko (6-2, 2-6, 6-3) during the 32.
