Hungarian Dalma Galfi won against Australian Kimberly Birrell, the No 4 seed, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Catalonia Open on Wednesday afternoon.
Galfi, ranked No 121, will face the winner of the match between Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, the No 8 seed, and Spaniard Guiomar Maristany Zuleta De Reales next.
The Hungarian defeated Chinese Xiyu Wang (6-3, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Birrell, ranked No 61, won against Canadian Bianca Andreescu (6-2, 6-2).
