Russian Veronika Kudermetova defeated American Amanda Anisimova, the No 15 seed, 7-6 (5) 7-5 to move into the third round of the Italian Open at the Foro Italico on Friday.
Kudermetova, ranked No 50, will play the winner of the match between Swiss lucky loser Jil Teichmann and Emma Raducanu next.
The Russian won against Italian wildcard Lucrezia Stefanini (7-5, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
