Italian Open: Kostyuk books spot in last 16

Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk moved into the last 16 of the Italian Open by defeating Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 24 seed, 6-4, 6-2 at the Foro Italico in Roma on Sunday.
Kostyuk, ranked No 27, will face the winner of the match between Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, and American Sofia Kenin, the No 31 seed, next.
The 22-year-old Ukrainian won against Filipino Alexandra Eala (6-0, 6-1) and Australian Daria Kasatkina, the No 14 seed (6-4, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous round of the Rome tournament, Fernandez, ranked No 26, won against Croat qualifier Antonia Ruzic (6-4, 6-0).
