Defending champion Zverev sees off Fils to reach last eight in Rome
Alexander Zverev defeated Arthur Fils 7-6 (3), 6-1 on Tuesday evening and will play Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 8 seed, in the next round

German Alexander Zverev, the second seed and defending champion, beat Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 13 seed, 7-6 (3), 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico on Tuesday evening.
Zverev, ranked No 2, will play Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 8 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the German won against Argentinian Camilo Ugo Carabelli (6-2, 6-1) and Lithuanian qualifier Vilius Gaubas (6-4, 6-0).
Fils, ranked No 14, won against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (6-2, 6-2) and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 18 seed (2-6, 6-4, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
