Swiss Simona Waltert edged out Canadian Marina Stakusic 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the semi-finals of the Parma Ladies Open presented by Iren on Thursday afternoon.
Waltert, ranked No 147, will face Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the No 5 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Swiss beat Chinese Xiyu Wang (6-3, 6-3) and Mexican Renata Zarazua, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-3).
Stakusic, ranked No 128, won against Colombian Camila Osorio, the No 4 seed (6-3, 6-1) and edged out Croat Antonia Ruzic (4-6, 6-1, 6-4) in the previous rounds.
