Holger Rune improved his already impressive record at Roland-Garros on Wednesday to 12-3.

Rune, feeding off the Parisian crowd’s infectious energy, beat American qualifier Emilio Nava 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the second round under the lights of Court Philippe Chatrier.

Interestingly, he wasn’t originally scheduled to feature in the popular night session on Wednesday but home-favourite Hugo Gaston abandoned his campaign due to abdominal pain, thus, prompting the organisers to move the Dane to center court.

He reflected on the same during a chat with Tennis Majors at Roland Garros after the match: “I was gonna play third but then Gaston pulled out against Shelton so they wanted to move my match to Chatrier. I was happy about it, I like to play on center court so that was nice.

“Obviously, it’s a long day, you know, 8:15 [pm] is late to play. I think we scheduled the day pretty good, warming up, we woke up in the middle of the day, went back to the hotel, chilled a bit and went out here a couple of hours before the match.”

these evening sessions never disappoint.”

The Dane has certainly taken a liking to the “beautiful” Court Philippe Chatrier and wishes to swing again on the dirt with the spectators cheering him on.

“It was great and I think these evening sessions never disappoint,” he added. “The crowd are really into it so it’s always good for us players to play. We get a lot of support. Then, the court, it’s a beautiful surrounding to play with the lights and the clay court, the best clay in the world for sure. I’ve played now quite a few of them and hope to play more.”

Though, the Parisian loyalty towards Rune will likely be tested when he squares off with local challenger Quentin Halys in the third round on Friday.
