Roland-Garros: Andreeva first woman through on day five

Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 6 seed, moved into the third round of Roland-Garros by defeating American Ashlyn Krueger 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday.

“I shook my head a couple of times, because I was not really happy with what was going on, Andreeva said to the media. “Just kind of a little emotion that I showed. But then I’m just happy that after that, I just, you know, kept on playing and just started to play like nothing happened.”

“With the serve, I cannot say that it was the sun. “Maybe a little bit the wind, because it was kind of blowing to every side. I couldn’t really say if it was blowing to, for example, against me or if it was, I don’t know, on the side. It was, like, always changing. So it was a little bit tricky. After, I just decided to go safe, and then in the end, I kind of found my serve back again.”

Andreeva, ranked No 6, will play the winner of the match between qualifier Joanna Garland and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 32 seed, next.

The 18-year-old Russian didn’t lose a set yet. She won against Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (6-4, 6-3) in the previous round.
