Roland-Garros: Popyrin makes last 16, needs two tiebreaks

Australian Alexei Popyrin, the No 25 seed, defeated Portuguese Nuno Borges 6-4, 7-6 (11), 7-6 (5) to reach the last 16 of Roland-Garros at Roland-Garros in Paris on Friday.
He is the fifth Australian man to reach the fourth round in Paris this millennium, following Mark Philippoussis, Wayne Arthurs, Lleyton Hewitt and Alex de Minaur.
Popyrin, ranked No 25, will face the winner of the match between Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 24 seed, and American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, next.
The Australian benefited from the abandonment of Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (7-5, 6-4, 1-2) and won against Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (7-5, 6-3, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Roland-Garros 2025, Borges, ranked No 41, eventually beat French qualifier Kyrian Jacquet (3-6, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-3, 6-3) and won against Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 7 seed (2-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0).
