The world No 361 is the first Frenchwoman to reach the last four at Roland-Garros since 2011.

Lois Boisson’s dream run at the 2025 edition of Roland-Garros will continue for at least another round after defeating sixth seed Mirra Andreeva 7-6(8), 6-3 in the quarter-finals.

The current world No 361 is the first Frenchwoman to reach the semi-finals at the Parisian Grand Slam since Marion Bartoli in 2011.

Additionally, Boisson is just the third women to reach the semi-finals on her Roland-Garros debut.

Even more importantly for Boisson’s career going forward, the home favourite will rise to – at least – the world No 65 spot in the WTA rankings and is confirmed to be the top-ranked Frenchwoman when the standings are published on Monday.

The world No 361 has also collected €690,000 in prize money via her last four run and would collect a further €585,000, if she becomes the second Frenchwoman to make the Roland-Garros showpiece match in the last 20 years (Mary Pierce – 2005).

THE MATCH

As for the match, the first set was a lung-busting one, lasting over 80 minutes – with Boisson going down a break on two occasions.

However, despite Andreeva having two set points (with one at 5-3 and the other in the tiebreak), it was the Frenchwoman to provided the – eventual – crucial blow by taking the tiebreak 8-6.

The Russian started the second set with greater confidence, rallying to a 3-0 lead after saving a break point in her first service game.

Boisson, despite her ranking, was undeterred, spurred on by the Philippe-Chatrier crowd and as well as the mental collapse of Andreeva – perhaps due to her label as the ‘overwhelming’ favourite heading into the encounter.

The world No 361 held the momentum after breaking back to win the final six games of the clash, falling to the ground in disbelief after converting match point.

Boisson: “There are no words to describe this feeling”

“It is unbelievable,” stated the Frenchwoman to Lucas Pouille, during her on-court interview.

“It was amazing to feel supported like this. There are no words for this feeling.

“I think that whatever the situation last year and difficult moments that we went through, it’s unbelievable to come from there but it’s thanks to my team who supported me. Thanks to all of us really.”

That ‘situation’ that Boisson referenced was an ACL injury which forced her to turn down a rare wildcard into the 2024 edition of the Parisian Grand Slam.

I’ll do my routine and I’ll be ready (for the semi-finals)

The surprise package on the women’s singles side will now meet Coco Gauff in a semi-final clash on Thursday.

“Well, I’m going to try and recover,” joked Boisson, when asked how she will recover before facing the American.

“Going to see the physios, there are six physios in my box, so I have plenty of choice. I’ll do my routine and I’ll be ready.”
