Top seed Taylor Fritz beat lucky loser Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-1 to win the Eastbourne Open title at the Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club.

It is the American’s 10th ATP title, with half of those coming the grass. It is the fourth time that Fritz has won the title in Eastbourne, having successfully defended his title for the second time.

For Fritz’s compatriot, Brooksby, despite the disappointment today, this has been a very positive week. The American became the first lucky loser in ATP Eastbourne history to reach the final. He was appearing in his fifth final, having taken his first title earlier this year in Houston in what has been a promising season.

Fritz had too much for him today, though, as the big-serving American broke four times compared to Brooksby’s one break of serve to ease to a comfortable win.

Ahead of his victory, Fritz, ranked No 5, defeated Brazilian Joao Fonseca (6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-5), Marcos Giron (7-5, 4-6, 7-5) and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 6 seed (6-3, 3-6, 6-1).

Brooksby, ranked No 149, defeated Argentinian Francisco Comesana (7-6 (6), 6-4), Portuguese Nuno Borges, the No 8 seed (6-4, 6-4), wildcard Daniel Evans (6-2, 6-3) and Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 4 seed (6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Eastbourne tournament.
