Wimbledon: Siegemund stuns Madison Keys to reach fourth round

Laura Siegemund sent yet another seed tumbling at this year’s Wimbledon, sweeping past American Madison Keys, the No 6 seed, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the last 16 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The German was simply too good for Keys, overwhelming the reigning Australian Open champion with five breaks of serve to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career.

Siegemund extends her career-best run, having never previously been past the second round at SW19.

Siegemund, ranked No 104, will play Argentinian lucky loser Solana Sierra next.

The 37-year-old German defeated American Peyton Stearns (6-4, 6-2) and Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 29 seed (6-2, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of The Championships, Keys, ranked No 8, edged out Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-7 (4), 7-5, 7-5) and won against Serb Olga Danilovic (6-4, 6-2).
