Alert: Fritz beats Khachanov to make Wimbledon semi-finals

American Taylor Fritz, the No 5 seed, reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon by edging out Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 17 seed, 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Tuesday afternoon.

Fritz, ranked No 5, will face the winner of the match between Englishman Cameron Norrie and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the American won against Australian Jordan Thompson (6-1, 3-0 ret.), Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 26 seed (6-4, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1), Canadian Gabriel Diallo (3-6, 6-3, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3) and Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (6-7 (6), 6-7 (8), 6-4, 7-6 (6), 6-4).

Khachanov, ranked No 20, beat Pole Kamil Majchrzak (6-4, 6-2, 6-3), Portuguese Nuno Borges (7-6 (6), 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8)), Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki (1-6, 7-6 (7), 4-6, 6-3, 6-4) and American Mackenzie McDonald (7-5, 6-4, 6-4) in the previous rounds of The Championships.
