On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, all eyes were on Jannik Sinner, who was playing his first round at Wimbledon against his compatriot Luca Nardi. Tennis fans wondered if the Italian had fully digested his last Grand Slam defeat against Carlos Alcaraz, after missing three match points. Less than two hours later, the world No 1 had reassured everyone.

This Sunday, July 13, Sinner was once again facing the man who inflicted this painful defeat on him in Paris. Would he be able to play freely without thinking about it? The latter gave the most beautiful answer by winning in four sets to win the fourth Grand Slam title of his career, his first at Wimbledon.

But Sinner had certainly digested his defeat at Roland-Garros, but not forgotten. As the champion that he is, the Italian built his victory at Wimbledon by analysing what happened in the final of the Parisian tournament and understanding that he should not stay down but rather get back to work.

“I think that’s the part I’m most proud of, because it really wasn’t easy. I’ve always tried to be honest with myself and I’ve also talked with myself. I’ve always tried to accept it, in a way. Things can happen. I think if you lose a Grand Slam final like that, it’s much better than if someone dominates you. »

“Then you keep moving forward, pushing. I put a lot of intensity in every training session because I felt I could play very well. That’s why I also said after Roland Garros that it was not the time to put myself down, because another Grand Slam is coming, and I did well here.”

In a little over a month at the US Open, Sinner will have the opportunity to defend his title in New York. For the difference of a few points at the French, he could have been going for the calendar slam.
