Daniil Medvedev will take fifth place in the ATP Finals race from Flavio Cobolli if he wins the Almaty title on Sunday. Daniil Medvedev will take fifth place in the ATP Finals race from Flavio Cobolli if he wins Sunday’s Almaty final against Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili. Cobolli stays on 3,640 points after letting four match points slip in a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 semifinal loss to Lorenzo Musetti in Lyon on Saturday.

Medvedev, sixth in the race, reached the final without completing his semifinal, as Alexander Bublik retired with a right knee problem after losing the first set 6-3. “The knee, as we even see with Jannik, is never an easy place to have an injury,” Medvedev said of the Kazakh.

Arthur Fils will move up to seventh in the race with 3,425 points, overtaking Frances Tiafoe, who has 3,380 and did not play this week, despite losing a semifinal he served to win in Brussels. Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff beat him 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (5).

The 100 points from the semifinal take the Frenchman past his previous best of No. 9, set in September. He also climbs to a career-high No. 8 in the ATP rankings on Monday, up from No. 10.

Against Struff, Fils won the second-set tiebreak 9-7, led by a break twice in the deciding set and served for the match at 5-4 before being broken. Struff took the deciding tiebreak.

Taylor Fritz has taken 12th place in the race from Tommy Paul, whom he beat (6-3, 7-5) to reach the Lyon final. The American, No. 14 in the ATP rankings, will stay 12th even if he beats Musetti in the final, as the title would leave him short of Novak Djokovic, who is 11th with 2,840 points.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will drop two places to No. 15 in the ATP rankings on Monday, a week after winning Shanghai for his second title in three weeks.

Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton are the only players mathematically qualified for the ATP Finals so far. Sinner is out for the rest of the 2026 season.
