Generali Open: Fifth consecutive victory for Bublik

Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the top seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Generali Open by beating Argentinian Thiago Agustin Tirante 6-3, 6-4 at Kitzbühel Tennis Club in Kitzbuhel on Wednesday afternoon.

After winning the Gstaad tournament last week, the first clay-court title of his career, Alexander Bublik decided to continue on this surface by playing in the Kitzbühel tournament.

He finished the match with 29 winners compared to just 13 for his opponent. Alexander Bublik played a perfect match, breaking Thiago Agustin Tirante on his only two break point opportunities. He also saved three break points early in the second set to avoid falling behind.

This is his fifth consecutive victory on the ATP Tour following his four wins in Gstaad. It’s the second time this season he has achieved such a winning streak, after his five-match run in Halle, where he claimed the fifth title of his career.

Bublik, ranked No 30, will face Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko next.

In the previous round of the Kitzbuhel tournament, Tirante, ranked No 130, won against Portuguese Jaime Faria (6-2, 6-2).
