Toronto Masters: Barrios Vera saved four match points to beat Monfils

Chilean qualifier Tomas Barrios Vera edged out Frenchman Gael Monfils 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (3) to reach the second round of the Toronto Masters at the Aviva Centre on Sunday evening.

He saved four match points in the third set before winning the tie-break 7-3. “I saved many match points in the third set. It was super tight. I just tried to fight every point. In these conditions, it’s super hot and fast, I tried to serve very well and win many points on return.”
