Shnaider wins the Monterrey tournament after a great battle against Alexandrova
Diana Shnaider won the final on Sunday night against Ekaterina Alexandrova

Miraculously surviving the quarterfinals after saving five match points against Elise Mertens, Diana Shnaider capped off the week in style. The No 3 seed edged out second seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to win the Abierto GNP Seguros trophy on Saturday night.
It’s the fifth title of her career on the WTA Tour, and her first of 2025. Since losing her first final in Ningbo in 2023, Diana Shnaider has won her next five finals, including four in 2024.
“Thank you to the crowd for coming out today and supporting us,” Shnaider said to the fans after the match. “The atmosphere was incredible. It was a pleasure to play, a pleasure to showcase high-level tennis, and I hope you enjoyed this week in Monterrey.”
With only 23 unforced errors compared to 50 from her opponent, Diana Shnaider managed to stay more consistent to win the final. She also took advantage of Ekaterina Alexandrova’s nine double faults.
Shnaider, ranked No 22, beat American Alycia Parks (6-3, 7-6 (8)), Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 5 seed (3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4)) and Kamilla Rakhimova (7-6 (3), 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Alexandrova, ranked No 14, defeated Czech Marie Bouzkova (6-3, 0-0 ret.), Czech Linda Noskova, the No 6 seed (7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-2) and Australian wildcard Ajla Tomljanovic (6-4, 6-3).
