German Alexander Zverev, the No 3 seed, reached the third round of the US Open by winning against Englishman Jacob Fearnley 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Thursday.

Zverev, ranked No 3, will face the winner of the match between Russian Roman Safiullin and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 25 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the German defeated Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (6-2, 7-6 (4), 6-4).

Fearnley, ranked No 60, edged out Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut (7-5, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4) in the previous round of the US Open.
