World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and his compatriot Lorenzo Musetti delivered masterclasses in efficiency on Monday, advancing to the US Open quarterfinals with a pair of dominant straight-set victories, setting up an all-Italian clash that guarantees one of them a spot in the semifinals.

Sinner, the defending champion, silenced any doubts about his form with a ruthless 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 demolition of Alexander Bublik. The match, which lasted just 81 minutes, was a showcase of Sinner’s relentless precision and power.

The Italian was in complete control, hitting 24 winners and a clean 8 aces while committing just a single double fault. His serve was nearly impregnable, winning a staggering 81% of his first-serve points and 73% on his second serve, leaving Bublik with no option.

Bublik, who had looked dangerous coming into the match as he defeated Sinner in Halle in June, struggled to find his footing against Sinner’s onslaught. He managed only 13 winners to Sinner’s 24 and was plagued by 31 unforced errors, more than twice the 16 committed by the world No. 1. Most tellingly, Sinner’s break point conversion rate was a clinical 47%, while Bublik’s couldn’t convert the only one that he got.

Sinner : “Great for Italian tennis”

In a post-match interview, Sinner acknowledged the quick pace of the contest. “It was a fast match,” he had to reckon. “I think I was playing some great tennis. I tried to move him around, trying to see how he moves.”

Sinner also praised his fellow countryman. “It’s great to see Italian tennis is in great form now. Lorenzo (Musetti) is maybe one of the biggest talents we have in our sport. From an Italian point of view, it’s great to have one Italian player in the semis.”

Musetti, meanwhile, was equally impressive, dismantling Spain’s Jaume Munar 6-3, 6-0, 6-1. The world No. 10 controlled the match from the first serve, hitting 27 winners and 7 aces, with an impressive 82% first-serve win rate. His precision and relentless offense were a stark contrast to Munar’s struggles. Musetti broke Munar’s serve a remarkable seven times, while facing no break points on his own serve.

Following his win, Musetti was visibly emotional. “Honestly the past month has been terrible. I was a little bit sad about my tennis,” he said in his on-court interview. “But you have to stay there mentally, and that’s what I’ve done… I’m really proud of myself.” He described the second set as one of the best of his career. Musetti had not won two matches in a row since his semi-final at Roland-Garros last June.
