Shanghai Masters: Rune moves into quarter-finals

Dane Holger Rune, the No 10 seed, advanced to the last eight of the Shanghai Masters by winning against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the No 32 seed, 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-3 at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center on Tuesday.

Rune, ranked No 11, will face the winner of the match between Monégasque qualifier Valentin Vacherot and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the No 27 seed, next.

The 22-year-old Dane beat Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 21 seed (6-4, 6-4) and Argentinian Sebastian Baez (7-5, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Shanghai tournament, Mpetshi Perricard, ranked No 37, defeated American Taylor Fritz, the No 5 seed (6-4, 7-5) and Italian Luca Nardi (6-3, 7-6 (4)).
