Sinner to miss Davis Cup Final 8, Alcaraz and Zverev set for Bologna

Italy will have to defend its Davis Cup crown without Jannik Sinner. The Italian No. 1, who led the Squadra Azzurra to victory in both 2023 and 2024, has been left out of captain Filippo Volandri’s squad for the 2025 Final 8, scheduled in Bologna from November 18 to 23.

In a statement published by the Italian Federation, Volandri explained that Sinner “has not made himself available for 2025,” adding that “the Davis Cup is, and will always be, his home,” and expressing confidence that the world No. 4 “will soon return to be part of the team.”

Despite the absence of his top player, Volandri remains upbeat. “I can rely on a group ready to fight and give everything for the azzurro shirt,” he said. “In Bologna, it will be another exciting adventure. I know the value of these guys, and I’m convinced the future will bring us great satisfaction.”

The Italian squad will be led by world No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti, joined by Flavio Cobolli, Matteo Berrettini, Simone Bolelli, and Andrea Vavassori. Italy is set to face Austria on November 19 in Bologna.

Alcaraz Chasing First Davis Cup Title

While the world No. 2 will not play in front of his home fans, world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will be in Bologna, leading Spain’s team as he hunts for his first Davis Cup trophy. The Spaniards will face the Czech Republic on November 20.

Spanish captain David Ferrer said he was “very happy to have Carlos Alcaraz, who is excited to take part in the Final 8,” and also confirmed that Marcel Granollers has fully recovered from the injury he sustained at the US Open.

World No. 3 Alexander Zverev is also set to return to Davis Cup action for the first time in two years. The German star will lead his nation under captain Michael Kohlmann against Argentina on November 20.
