Chennai Open: Tjen wins the trophy

Indonesian Janice Tjen, the No 4 seed, won the Chennai Open final by beating Australian Kimberly Birrell, the No 7 seed, 6-4, 6-3 at the SDAT Tennis Stadium on Sunday.
In the previous rounds of the Chennai tournament, Tjen, ranked No 82, defeated Thai Lanlana Tararudee (7-6 (6), 7-6 (5)), Slovak wildcard Mia Pohankova (6-3, 6-1), Czech Linda Fruhvirtova (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) and German qualifier Caroline Werner (6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2).
Birrell, ranked No 117, defeated Joanna Garland (6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-5), Croat Donna Vekic, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-0), Indian wildcard Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (7-5, 7-6 (2)) and Czech Nikola Bartunkova (1-6, 6-1, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
