No Words about Ferrero by Alcaraz in Seoul but the “New Two” Rivalry Takes Center Stage

As Carlos Alcaraz began his post-Juan Carlos Ferrero era in South Korea, the Spaniard remained silent on his coaching split, choosing instead to define 2026 through his “healthy” rivalry with Jannik Sinner and a refusal to be compared to the Big Three.

Despite a flurry of headlines regarding his late-2025 split from long-time mentor Juan Carlos Ferrero, Carlos Alcaraz did not have to answer any questions about the breakup on Friday in Incheon, South Korea, where he is playing an exhibition match against Jannik Sinner.

“I’ve fully recovered my condition by resting during the off-season,” Alcaraz noted regarding his transition from 2025 to 2026. “Starting the season playing here with Jannik… is a great way to get ready.” Alcaraz labeled the match as vital preparation for the 2026 Australian Open.

The core of the press conference centered on the “New Two” and their refusal to live in the shadow of the past. When asked about constant comparisons to the Big Three—Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic—Jannik Sinner was firm:

The new Two and the Big Three

“What the Big Three has done, we cannot compare ourselves with them. We are just ourselves and we want to make our own story,” Sinner said. Alcaraz described their rivalry as a “gift” earned by consistently reaching the final stages of major tournaments.

Sinner’s admiration for his rival was evident throughout the session. He labeled Alcaraz the “most entertaining player to watch on the entire circuit,” noting that the Spaniard’s presence is the primary catalyst for his own growth. “It’s great to have him to push me to the limit,” Sinner remarked, highlighting a “healthy relationship” that balances intense competition with genuine off-court friendship.

Both players touched upon the global expansion of tennis. Sinner expressed surprise at the “insane” energy of the Korean fans at Incheon International Airport.
