English qualifier Arthur Fery beat Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 20 seed, 7-6 (1), 6-4, 6-1 to reach the 64 of the Australian Open on Sunday night.

Currently ranked No. 185, the 23-year-old Fery showcased incredible confidence on the John Cain Arena, neutralizing the Italian’s power with a clean-striking and aggressive performance.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Fery, as it is his second career win over a Top 30 opponent, following his defeat of Alexei Popyrin at Wimbledon last year, and propels him into the second round of a Grand Slam for the second time.

After battling through an arm injury and a rigorous qualifying draw, this breakthrough moment in Melbourne signals a new chapter for the former Stanford standout, who now looks to carry this momentum deeper into the tournament.

Fery, ranked No 185, will face the winner of the match between Serb Miomir Kecmanovic and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry next.
