Mirra Andreeva continued her red-hot start to 2026 on Monday evening, securing a 7-6(0), 6-1 victory over Magda Linette to reach the last 16 of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open. The 18-year-old fifth seed, currently ranked world No 7, showed elite mental toughness in the opening set, saving five set points to force a tiebreak which she then won without dropping a single point.

The second set was a one-sided affair as the young Russian, who already captured a title in Adelaide this season, used her relentless baseline aggression to overwhelm the world No 47. Linette had reached the second round after a grueling 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over Great Britain’s Sonay Kartal on Sunday, but she found no answer for Andreeva’s depth and movement once the momentum shifted.

Andreeva’s path to the quarterfinals now depends on the result of the second-round match between veteran Vera Zvonareva and the rising Canadian teen Victoria Mboko.
