Zverev survives Nakashima onslaught to extend perfect rivalry record
Alexander Zverev edged out Brandon Nakashima 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-4 on Sunday evening and will play either Flavio Cobolli or Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round.

Alexander Zverev survived a high-stakes physical battle to overcome American Brandon Nakashima at the BNP Paribas Open. He prevailed 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-4 to secure a hard-fought place in the round of 16.
The world No 4 displayed immense mental fortitude throughout the two-hour and 32-minute contest. Although Nakashima appeared to be the superior player for large portions of the match, Zverev eventually found a way to win the critical points.

The victory ensures Zverev remains undefeated in his head-to-head rivalry with the American. The German celebrated with a massive emotional reaction following the final point.
Zverev enters the next phase with significant momentum after defeating both Matteo Berrettini and Nakashima in back-to-back rounds.
The defining element of the result was Zverev’s efficiency during the few opportunities he was afforded. While Nakashima dictated the rhythm and looked more comfortable from the baseline, Zverev utilized his experience to dominate the first-set tiebreak. This clinical edge eventually proved decisive when the match reached its climax in the third set.

The match remained on serve for nearly two and a half hours as both players served with high precision. Nakashima finally broke Zverev at 5-5 in the second set to force a decider. The American had yet to face a break point until the very end of the contest. However, Zverev secured his first and only break of the match in the final game to clinch the win.
