French wild card Amandine Hesse beat Czech Barbora Palicova 6-4, 6-2 on Monday to reach the last 16 of the Grand Est Open 88, the WTA 125 event on the clay of Contrexeville. Now 33 and ranked No 401, a long way from her career-high No 154, Hesse will next face the winner of Moroccan Yasmine Kabbaj and Egyptian fifth seed Mayar Sherif.
