Bergs undone by 29 errors as Buse becomes the first Peruvian to win a match in Paris
The Belgian, ranked No. 40, made 29 unforced errors and lost 6-2, 6-4, unable to repeat his Shanghai win. Ignacio Buse, 22, is the first Peruvian to win a match at the event and faces fourth seed Daniil Medvedev next.

Zizou Bergs could not repeat his Shanghai win over Ignacio Buse. The Belgian, ranked No. 40, lost 6-2, 6-4 in 1 hour 20 minutes in the first round of the Paris Masters 1000 on Monday, as Buse became the first Peruvian to win a match at the event and set up a meeting with fourth seed Daniil Medvedev.
Bergs hit 23 winners to Buse’s 12, but made 29 unforced errors, 17 of them in the first set. The Peruvian made 11, converted four of his 10 break points and dropped serve only once, in the second set.
The result reversed their only previous meeting, in Shanghai this season, when Bergs won 6-0, 6-3. Bergs, who won the Eastbourne title this season, had reached the second round in Paris in each of the past two years.
Buse, 22, ranked No. 33 and playing the event for the first time, earned his first Masters 1000 win on hard courts. He had lost his four previous matches at that level on the surface. He has won two titles this season, in Hamburg and Winston-Salem, and came into the Rolex Paris Masters with a 24-21 record in 2026.
Medvedev, the 2020 Paris champion, next for Buse
Medvedev, who received a first-round bye, won the title in 2020 and has a 12-7 record at the event. He has won four titles this season and has already qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin.
