Eleventh seed Taylor Fritz of the United States came from a set down to beat French qualifier Benjamin Bonzi 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour 42 minutes in the first round of the Rolex Paris Masters on Tuesday. He will face Slovak qualifier Alex Molcan in the second round.

The win keeps Fritz in the race for the Nitto ATP Finals. Twelfth in the Race to Turin with 2,860 points before the match, he needs at least the semi-finals to stay in contention, or the final if Rafael Jodar beats Casper Ruud on Tuesday night. Only the title would make sure of his place.

How Fritz recovered from a set down against Bonzi

Bonzi broke for 3-1 in the opening set. Fritz saved three break points at 1-4, but the Frenchman took the set 6-3 on his second set point.

Fritz broke in the second game of the second set and levelled the match 6-3. He broke again in the opening game of the decider, saved a break point in the next game and served out the match on his first match point.

Fritz could meet sixth seed Arthur Fils, also in the race for Turin, in the third round. Fils faces qualifier Tomas Machac in the second round.
