Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, beat American Ben Shelton, the No 3 seed, 7-6 (5), 7-5 to win the Rolex Paris Masters title on Sunday afternoon.
Six break points saved in the first set, a tie-break won from 4-3 down, then an early break conceded in the second and recovered straight away: he came through every twist of Sunday’s final against Ben Shelton. A week after Vienna, the Spaniard ends years of struggle at Paris-La Défense and heads to Turin with back-to-back indoor titles.
Earlier in the tournament, Alcaraz, ranked No 3, defeated Norwegian Casper Ruud (6-4, 6-4), American Taylor Fritz, the No 11 seed (6-7 (10), 7-5, 6-3), Italian Matteo Berrettini (W/O) and American Alex Michelsen (7-6 (4), 6-3).
Shelton, ranked No 4, beat Frenchman Luca Van Assche (5-7, 6-3, 6-4), No 12 seed Tommy Paul (6-4, 4-6, 6-3), Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5)) and Englishman Cameron Norrie (6-3, 6-4) in the previous rounds.
