Adelaide Open: Draper makes last four, takes out top seed Paul

Jack Draper moved into the semi-finals of the Adelaide Open by defeating American Tommy Paul, the top seed, 6-1, 6-4 at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre on Thursday night.

The two have now played twice, both times at this event – with the British player winning both matches in straight sets.

Draper, ranked No 62, will play Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 8 seed, next in what will be his second consecutive ATP Tour semi-final.

Jack Draper won against Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 5 seed (6-1, 6-3) and edged out Serb Miomir Kecmanovic (5-7, 7-6 (9), 7-6 (7)) ahead of his victory – a match in which he saved two match points.

In the previous round of the Adelaide tournament, Paul, ranked No 14, beat Australian qualifier Alex Bolt (6-3, 6-2).
