Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles reached the semi-finals of the Argentina Open by beating Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 5 seed, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3 at Buenos Aires on Friday.

The 26-year-old Zapata Miralles is into his maiden ATP semi-final with the victory. He will face Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, next.

Zapata Miralles finished his conquest of the top-ranked Argentinian with a superb final set that saw him save all five break points he faced against the world No 30 for his sixth career top 50 win.

Earlier in the tournament, Cerundolo, ranked No 30, edged out German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann (6-2, 4-6, 7-5) and defeated Spaniard Jaume Munar (6-2, 6-1).
