Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 7 seed, reached the final of the ASB Classic by beating American Marcos Giron 6-1, 6-4 on Friday night.
Baez, ranked No 43, will play Czech Jakub Mensik, the No 3 seed, next.
In the previous rounds, the Argentinian won against American Ben Shelton, the top seed (7-5, 6-3), American Jenson Brooksby (7-5, 6-0) and American qualifier Emilio Nava (4-6, 7-5, 6-3).
