Astana Open: Ofner moves into last four, defeating Thiem

Sebastian Ofner advanced to the last four of the Astana Open by winning against his fellow countryman Dominic Thiem 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 at the Daulet National Tennis Center on Sunday.

Ofner, ranked No 58, will play Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 6 seed, next.

In the previous rounds of the Nur-Sultan tournament, Sebastian Ofner beat Hungarian Marton Fucsovics (2-6, 6-2, 6-3) and Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-2).

Thiem, ranked No 81, won against Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (6-3, 7-6 (8)) and edged out American Marcos Giron (6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (2)) earlier in the tournament.
