Russian Daniil Medvedev, the top seed, beat American Brandon Nakashima 6-2, 7-6 (1) to lift the Brisbane International presented by ANZ trophy on Sunday night, the 22th pro title of his career.

This performance highlights the rise of the Russian’s confidence and level after a difficult 2025 season. Medvedev is winning one rank at the ATP rankings thanks to this trophy.

Ahead of his victory, Medvedev, ranked No 13, defeated American Alex Michelsen (6-4, 6-2), Pole lucky loser Kamil Majchrzak (6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2), American Frances Tiafoe (6-3, 6-2) and Hungarian Marton Fucsovics (6-2, 6-3).

“Obviously he was playing well right from the beginning”, Nakashima said, “not giving me many errors or not giving me much time to kind of find my rhythm, but, you know, in the end, I was just trying to kind of fight back, fight for every point, see if I can grab some opportunities here and there.”

Nakashima, ranked No 33, beat Aleksandar Kovacevic (7-6 (4), 6-4), Belgian qualifier Raphael Collignon (6-3, 6-3), French qualifier Quentin Halys (6-2, 6-4) and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the second seed (7-6 (4), 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
