Australian Jordan Thompson won against Serb Dusan Lajovic 6-1, 7-6 (1) to advance to the last eight of the Chengdu Open at the Sichuan International Tennis Center on Friday night.
Thompson, ranked No 56, will face the winner of the match between Russian Roman Safiullin and No 4 seed Daniel Evans next.
Lajovic, ranked No 52, beat Belgian wildcard Zizou Bergs (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) in the previous round of the Chengdu tournament.
In the previous round of the Chengdu tournament, the Australian defeated No 6 seed Max Purcell (6-2, 7-6 (8)).
