Chile Open: Martinez upsets Fils to make semi-finals

Spaniard Pedro Martinez advanced to the last four of the Chile Open by defeating Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 3 seed, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2 at Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago de Chile on Friday evening.

Martinez, ranked No 101, will play Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the second seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the Spaniard won against Italian wildcard Francesco Passaro (6-4, 6-1) and Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta, the No 6 seed (7-6 (4), 6-7 (5), 6-1).

Fils, ranked No 44, beat Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild (6-3, 6-3) in the previous round of the Santiago tournament.
