Cincinnati Masters: Čilić advances to last 16

Marin Čilić edged out Emil Ruusuvuori 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-5 on Wednesday night and will play Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the No 3 seed, in the next round

Croat Marin Čilić, the No 14 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Cincinnati Masters by edging out Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-5 at the Linder Tennis Family Center on Wednesday night.

Čilić, ranked No 17, will face Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the No 3 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the 33-year-old Croat won against Spanish qualifier Jaume Munar (6-3, 6-3).

Ruusuvuori, ranked No 44, defeated American wildcard J.J. Wolf (7-6 (2), 6-2) in the previous round of the Cincy Open.
