Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 7 seed, reached the last 8 of the Citi Open by winning against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the No 9 seed, 7-5, 6-4 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.
Thompson, ranked No 33, will play the winner of the match between American Sebastian Korda, the No 4 seed, and Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis next.
In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, the Australian beat American wildcard Reilly Opelka (6-4, 6-3).
