Croatia Open: Agamenone moves into semi-finals

Franco Agamenone won against Marco Cecchinato 6-2, 6-1 on Friday afternoon. He’ll face the winner of the match between Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena and Italian Jannik Sinner, the second seed, in the next round

Qualifier Franco Agamenone defeated qualifier Marco Cecchinato 6-2, 6-1 to move into the last 4 of the Croatia Open at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag on Friday afternoon.

Agamenone, ranked No 136, will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena and Italian Jannik Sinner, the second seed, next.

Agamenone, ranked 136, won his first ATP-level match in the first round at Umag, over Laslo Djere. He made his tour-level debut at Roland-Garros as a lucky loser, losing to Mackenzie McDonald in the first round.

Earlier in the tournament, Franco Agamenone edged out Serb Laslo Djere (7-6 (8), 2-6, 7-5) and Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 4 seed (3-6, 6-1, 7-5).

Cecchinato, ranked No 151, won against Croat wildcard Mili Poljicak (6-1, 5-7, 6-2) and No 8 seed Lorenzo Musetti (6-4, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Umag.
