Just as he hinted after the first medical examinations, his current injury isn’t too serious: Rafael Nadal, who is absent from this Australian Open due to a hip scare suffered during his comeback tournament in Brisbane, will make his return next month at the ATP 250 tournament in Doha, which begins on February 19.

After missing almost the entire 2023 season due to an psoas muscle injury that required surgery, Nadal had made a promising comeback at the start of the year in Brisbane, where he reached the quarter-finals. However, a sore left hip in a match he lost to Jordan Thompson led to his withdrawal from Melbourne, much to the concern of his fans. In the end, the injury had nothing to do with last year’s, although it was in the same joint area.

Nadal has been a regular at the Doha tournament, which he won in 2013 by beating Gaël Monfils, but he had not played there since 2016. This time, he will be in a field that includes Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev and Andy Murray, among others.
