Chinese Zhizhen Zhang beat Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 7 seed, 7-6 (4), 6-3 to move into the second round of the Eastbourne Open at the Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club on Tuesday evening.
Zhang, ranked No 54, will face American Maxime Cressy next.
