European Open: Tsitsipas passes Hanfmann test with flying colours

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the top seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the European Open by beating German Yannick Hanfmann, the No 5 seed, 6-3, 6-3 at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp on Friday evening.

Tsitsipas, ranked No 7, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 4 seed, and Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas, the No 8 seed, next.

The Greek player won against Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (7-5, 6-3) in the previous round of the Antwerp Open.

Earlier in the tournament, Hanfmann, ranked No 56, won against Belgian qualifier Alexander Blockx (6-4, 7-6 (3)) and edged out Austrian Dominic Thiem (6-4, 5-7, 6-4).
