Arthur Fils is into the biggest final of his career. The 22-year-old Frenchman produced a ruthless, front-foot performance to dismantle World No 10 Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-4 in just 1 hour and 7 minutes on Saturday, reaching his first ATP Masters 1000 final in Cincinnati.
Fils becomes just the second Frenchman to reach the Cincinnati final in the Open era, after Guy Forget in 1991, and the youngest French Masters 1000 finalist since Richard Gasquet in Toronto in 2006. He is also only the second man born in 2004 or later to reach a Masters 1000 final, following Jakub Mensik.
On Monday, he will climb to a career-high World No 11.
happy with the performance. I stayed focused from start to finish
The numbers tell the story of a man who barely let his opponent breathe. Fils struck 22 winners to Cobolli’s three – a staggering gap – attacking relentlessly off both wings and winning all three of his trips to the net. He took 90% of his service games (9/10), fired six aces, and never gave Cobolli the kind of tight, drawn-out contest the Italian had thrived on all week.
Fils had no doubt about where the match was won. “I served very, very well from the middle of the first set to the end,” he said afterwards. “I had pretty much all my targets, I was finding them well, so I’m very happy with the performance. I stayed focused from start to finish.”

The first set swung early. After an exchange of breaks – Cobolli nosing ahead 2-1 before Fils struck straight back – the Frenchman pulled clear late, breaking for 5-3 and serving it out. The second followed a single, decisive script: Fils broke in the opening game and never let go, holding with growing authority before closing the match, as he had all night, with a near-unplayable service game.
I’ll try to bring the title home.
Fils has now won eight of his last nine matches, reaching his seventh tour-level final and third of 2026, after Doha and his Barcelona title. Cobolli’s scalp also gave him the first tournament of his career with multiple Top 10 wins, adding to his fourth-round defeat of No 8 Alex de Minaur.
A new Masters 1000 champion is guaranteed either way. Fils will meet either Frances Tiafoe or Brandon Nakashima in Sunday’s final, and on this evidence, a title here would make him a serious contender at the US Open, which begins next week.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the Frenchman was already relishing the occasion: “It’s the biggest final of my career, so it’s going to be cool to play. I’m going to enjoy it, and I’ll try to bring the title home.”
