Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 8 seed, won against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Halle Open at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Thursday.

Auger-Aliassime put up a fight in the first set but was ultimately overpowered by Khachanov, who continues to prove himself as a serious contender on grass.

Despite his solid performance in recent months — including semi-finals in Hamburg and Stuttgart — FAA couldn’t match the Russian’s consistency and power in key moments.

Khachanov, currently ranked No. 8 in the world, sealed the win with aggressive baseline play and strong serving. The Russian, ranked No 22, will face the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 4 seed, and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry next.
