Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 3 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Hamburg Open by beating German wildcard Justin Engel 6-3, 7-5 at Tennis Stadion on Wednesday.

Rublev, ranked No 17, will face the winner of the match between Italian Luciano Darderi and American Brandon Nakashima, the No 7 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Hamburg tournament, the Russian won against Bosnian Damir Dzumhur (6-4, 6-3).

Engel, ranked No 333, won against wildcard Jan-Lennard Struff (7-6 (4), 7-6 (4)) in the first round of the Hamburg tournament.
