Japan Open: Shelton reaches quarter-finals
The defending champion defeated Mariano Navone 6-4, 6-3 on Friday

American Ben Shelton, the No 8 seed and the defending champion, won against Argentinian Mariano Navone 6-4, 6-3 to reach the last eight of the Japan Open at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Friday.
Shelton, ranked No 17, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Fils and Italian Matteo Berrettini next.
The 21-year-old American edged out Reilly Opelka (3-6, 6-1, 6-4) in the previous round of the Tokyo Open.
During the first round of the Tokyo Open, Navone, ranked No 40, defeated Italian Luciano Darderi (6-4, 6-4).
